Let’s share with you the equipment that we are using including drones, accessories, cinematography and post processing hardware as well as software.
The products that we are going to discuss with you are not necessarily the latest or the most expensive of solutions. But they certainly are at the top with regard to quality and the pricing aspect.
It goes without saying that opting for an ideal drone is not an easy task. You can come across tons of models with varying specifications developer for different circumstances and consumers. They have their own benefits and drawbacks so we believe that there is no perfect machine out there nor there ever will be.
Our personal favorite is the mighty DJI Mavic Pro that is equipped with exquisite flight safety features such as obstacle avoidance, ground sonar and visual positioning systems, return to base and several other astounding features. It is compact in size and can be stuffed even in one’s backpack during travels. It is integrated with a mindblowing camera which though cannot be compared to that of DJI Inspire 1 or DJI Inspire 2 but in its own niche, is one of the best one around.
When it comes to videography, this drone is our favorite as it is capable of capturing aerial video footage at 4K UHD or in 5.2K CDG RAW. We captured a whole review in 4K UHD that incorporates video footage from a scene that we covered for a Netflix flick. Here is the link to the review and the free test footage.
If you are not hampered by budgetary constraints, go ahead and give this mighty beast a go. It will definitely throw you off the hook. Definitely, a brilliant cinema monster!
Well, we are all in love with the superb DJI Mavic Pro. This is a powerful little drone that is way ahead of its competitors that are even two or three times larger in size.
It is easily portable thanks to its compact and retractable design. It is so small that you can even place it in the glove compartment of your vehicle. The drone comes with a 4K UHD camera and smart autonomous flight modes.
Drone of the Year
We have both the Pro and Pro+ variants of this drone. We prefer to use the Pro variant in contrast to the pro+ one along with iPhone or iPad. This powerful machine is loaded with a one inch camera sensor which makes it one of the most affordable cinematographic drones available on the market. If you are in search for a magnificent drone that has impressive cinematic capabilities and costs less than $2,000, then this is what you have been looking for.
This drone has been my go to drone for a long time. It has a long lasting frame, a sophisticated internal mechanism and top quality 4K UHD camera. It is also equipped with Lightbridge and is compatible with the DJI Go application.
We have produced our video footages with this drone and it has never flattered to deceive. Having said that, it is obviously not integrated with all the adornments that can be found in the later models.
Drone for pilots
To be honest, we do not own this drone as it is seriously expensive and has a camera that is not very formidable. Nevertheless, this drone is fun to fly and assists pilots in getting acquainted with the aerodynamics part of drone flying. We are undergoing some flight lessons of real world airplanes and this drone basically flies on the same principles. On the whole, it is quite an interesting machine!
The cool and intelligent goggles offer an immersive digital flying experience that make you feel as if you are sitting in the cockpit of a drone while it is midair. They are compatible with any DJI drone and work in a wireless fashion with DJI Mavic Pro. Here are their specifications and review.
If you own them, go for the Fixed Wing Mode of flight and have a time of your lives flying your drone.
DJI Osmo Pro
To be honest, the DJI Osmo series is somewhat old now. However, we are still using the DJI Osmo Pro. Basically, it is a handle along with a formidable X5 camera. It captures scintillating video footage but it slightly difficult to handle in contrast to a normal camera on a stabilizer which is a bit of a drawback. If the Osmo Pro is used with the Z-axis, it gives you results as those expected from the Hollywood Steadycam.
We are using it to transport our small mirrorless or DSLR cameras. It cannot accommodate a big cine camera as it can be a bit of a hassle to pull focus on a gimbal. We would recommend you to use a 4K UHD camera with a fast auto focus. Here is a useful camera along with its successor. They work exceptionally well when used with the Zhiyun Crane.
The DJI Ronin-M is one of the best around when it comes to gimbals for DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. It offers great performance in sync with this affordable option along with this slightly expensive alternative. To be honest, we do not have one since it is placed at the higher end of the price spectrum.
