Xiro Xplorer V Review

We always endeavor to bring forth the most relevant and unique information related to drones to you. We always want you to make the best possible purchases at the most affordable prices. In this post, we are about to review a quadcopter that was introduced in 2015 and acclaimed the Good Design Award 2015 and 2016 Red Dot Best of the Best Award. It is none other than the phenomenal Xiro Xplorer V. I believe that this drone boasts an aesthetically pleasing appearance. So, without wasting much time, let’s get on with the business.

Design and Material

As I discussed earlier, the Xiro Xplorer V boasts one of the best designs among the currently available crop of quadcopters on the market. As a matter of fact, it is the winner of a couple of design awards. It comes with a black and green design that is pleasing to the eye and make it stand out from the crowd. In addition to boasting stunning looks, the Xiro Xplorer V is made up of carbon fiber which is one of the most formidable material available.

This construction material imparts the requisite strength to the quadcopter; thereby enabling it to withstand crashes or damages due to other reasons. However, this does not imply that you become reckless. The Xiro Xplorer V flies at an optimum speed of 8m/s. So, if you bump against any tree or building, you are inevitably going to end up damaging your device. So, always fly safe.

Camera and FPV System

The Xiro Xplorer V comes with a decent quality camera that is just above par in terms of quality in comparison with other cameras available on the market. The camera is a 14MP 1080p High Definition one that is mounted on a 3 axis gimbal.

The camera can be tilted via the remote controller so you can try out a wide range of shooting angles. The image quality at nighttime is also quite good owing to the Panasonic CMOS image sensor that captures stunning images even in low light conditions.

The 1080p video is captured at a frame rate of 30 frames per second while the 720p one is shot at 60 frames per second. The video files are saved in QuickTime format and can be accessed later on for post-production. The Xiro Xplorer V is also equipped with the FPV transmission system that lets it broadcast a real time video feed captured by the camera.

The video feed can be viewed on a smartphone or tablet powered by iOS or Android. The real time video is transmitted via WiFi. Photographs can also be downloaded wirelessly to the mobile device and can also be shared to interactive social media platforms without requiring a PC.

Features of Xiro Xplorer V

The Xiro Xplorer V is packed with tons of exquisite features. It features autonomous landing and takeoff whereby the machine takes off automatically once a button on the controller is pressed and starts hovering in the sky awaiting the next set of instructions by the pilot.

The same button tells the Xiro Xplorer V to land. In addition, Xiro Xplorer V also comes with a variety of automated features such as Return to Base that makes use of the inbuilt compass that keeps track of the drone’s original position of takeoff. Once this button is pressed, the drone automatically comes back and lands to its original position safely.

If you are anxious about losing your drone through a fly away or crash, there is no need to be worried about since the drone comes with an alert mechanism that lets the pilot know when the battery is running out of juice. The Xiro Xplorer V is also loaded with the Intelligent Orientation Control feature that resembles the Headless Mode.

It ensures easy handling owing to the integrated compass. If you own the mobile app, you can also make the Xiro Xplorer V follow a tagged object while recording the video. You can also pre-program the trajectory of the drone using to a maximum of 16 waypoints. Considering the price it is available at, the Xiro Xplorer V certainly packs a power punch.

Radio Controller and Control Range

This product is available with an intelligent control that boasts a comfortable grip. It is very user-friendly and compact in size. The 5.8GHz controller boasts seamless tactile silicon and vibration signals that tend to provide an exhilarating flight experience. The controller comes with three levels of flight and three features button each one for Intelligent Flight Control, Return to Home and Auto takeoff and landing.

The remote controller also comes with a smartphone mount that can hold a device up to 5.5 inches in size. With all those stunning features, the Xiro Xplorer V offers just 500 meters of control range which is disappointing and less than the average range offered by other drones of this category. Having said that, 500 meters is also sufficient to get the most out of this tremendous machine.

Battery and flight duration

Powered by a 1.1V 5200mAh LiPo battery, the Xiro Xplorer V provides a flight duration of a whopping 25 minutes. Obviously, the flight duration will vary depending on the weather conditions and the device payload. If you want additional flight duration, you can always go for extra batteries.

However, I would suggest you to let the motors of this product cool down a bit before you insert the new battery for another flight adventure. An immediate switch of batteries and flight might end up damaging the motors.

Worth buying Xiro Xplorer V?

It all boils down to your budget and personal preferences. On the whole, it is one of the best quadcopters in its category. It is equipped with tons of features, a good quality 14MP camera and comes in the ready to fly original packaging.

In comparison to other drones of the same price range, it offers lower operational range, additional flight duration and loads of intelligent flight features. The camera is also good enough considering the price tag. Overall, it is a great buy but everything rests on your own requirements.
