5 Cool Drone Accessories and Gizmos
Drone aficionados are always looking out for top quality accessories and gizmos that can be added to their ever-expanding repertoire. So, we bring to you the best drone accessories and gizmos available on the market.
Safety sensor for propellers
Propellers can be the most important as well as the dangerous components of a drone at the same time. This is particularly true for larger drones using propellers made of carbon fiber as they can cut your fingers severely and can be potential fatal in case of serious accidents.
Kids who fly toy grade drones are always vulnerable to injuries. That does not mean that professionals are safe from injuries.
Some drones are equipped with propeller guards or propeller cages to help avoid injury due to contact with blades.
These solutions certainly produce the results but they increase the weight of your drone and hence undermine the performance of the machine.
Scientists at the University of Queensland in Australia have engineered a lightweight system consisting of light plastic hoops that senses when a finger is getting closer to the blades and stops them in 0.06 seconds. The hoops are attached to a single propeller using a low friction bearing.
The hoops rotate with the propellers but at a slightly lower pace. An approaching finger gets in contact with the plastic hoop first while the variation in speed is detected by an optical sensor and an electro-dynamic braking mechanism kicks in to stop the propeller in 0.06 seconds.
The set will be available to the consumers for $20 and weighs only 22 grams.
All-terrain landing equipment
Finding an appropriate spot to land your drone can be a bit of a hassle especially if you are habitual of flying your drone over different terrains. A landing pad can be a solution but in situations such as when the pilot is on a boat, it may not be able to serve the purpose well.
An all-terrain landing gear is what you should be looking for.DroneRafts by WaterStrider has been developed for DJI Phantom 3 and Phantom 4.
The set of four buoyant landing skids cost about $140 and let you land anywhere. It will also enable your drone to land on water which is a great option for drone photographers to capture some unique shots. You can also land your drone on uneven surfaces as the landing gear has the ability to absorb shocks.
However, this equipment can affect the performance of your drone. So it is judicious if you use them only when intending to land your drone on rugged terrain or water.
Drone lighting kit
Leds lights can be used to adorn your drone or to furnish some much needed lighting. This will help you view your drone in the darkness and figure out the orientation from a distance.
You can find out tons of drone lighting solutions such as powerful spotlights and LED strobe lights at MyDroneLight.com.

Agricultural drones are being equipped with multispectral cameras these days. Crops with best genes are being identified with multispectral cameras. This can lead to higher crop yield.
Lithium Ion Battery Bag
Spare batteries are required by all drone pilots. It is always quite disappointing to fly your drone for a few minutes and then to find out that the batteries have run out of juice.
There is no limit to the number of spare batteries that should be made part of a drone pilot’s repertoire. But with such a large number of spare batteries, it is important that you own a safe carrying case designed specifically for them.
Improper storage of lithium ion batteries can lead to explosions as excessive heat can be dangerous for them. That is exactly why FAA and airline carriers have imposed stringent rules regarding the transportation of these batteries.
A specialized battery bag will ensure easy storage and portability of lithium ion batteries. These bags are fire and explosion resistant and will keep your batteries safe even when you are on the go.
